Jimi Hendrix Sex Tape
-
Is that a guitar in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me? Turns out my man Jimi knew how to hit all the right notes on more than just a gee-tar! Yeah, baby! Just save some for the bass players like me, yo!

Rent, Don't Buy, Your Home
(Yahoo! Real Estate)
-
When the housing market slumps - as it has every 10 or 15 years for the past several decades - home ownership becomes little more than renting, [except] from a bank. That's an interesting take that I haven't heard before. But, of course, there are other benefits to being an owner that are pretty important to insuring your quality-of-life, and I don't think it's a dream that should be given up so easily.

Bill Clinton says Barack Obama must 'kiss my ass' for his support
(Telegraph UK)
-
Bill Clinton is so bitter about Barack Obama's victory over his wife Hillary that he has told friends the Democratic nominee will have to beg for his wholehearted support.Bill, please define the word 'ass.' Is it a small, horse-like animal you're referring to, or rather a round, firm, human buttock cheek?

Review: Kung Fu Panda (2008)
-
This movie was so much fun. The voice characterizations were perfect. Jack Black speaks for the fish-out-of-water panda (if that's biologically possible) who dreams of becoming a Kung-Fu hero, and accidentally gets to live his fantasy. I won't spoil how it ends, but it was an energetic, entertaining, well-animated romp. Delicious. A simple story that included characters whom anyone from child to adult can understand, a formidable villain, and a satisfying climax. What more do you want from a summer movie?

Biofuel use 'increasing poverty'
(BBC)
-
The group also says biofuels will do nothing to combat climate change. It's almost like we have to choose which 'machines' are going to get fed. BigCo conglomerates care more about machines than people. It's more profitable that way. But what a bogus way to live.

"In his lengthy career as a comedian, writer, and actor, George Carlin has not only made us laugh, but he makes us think."My take: A truly gifted entertainer, and one of the foremost verbal technicians in the game. He painted with words.

Inconspicuous Consumption

A new theory of the leisure class. Conspicuous consumption, this research suggests, is not an unambiguous signal of personal affluence. Its a sign of belonging to a relatively poor group...this research has implications beyond race.

Fox Forced to Address Michelle Obama Headline
(New York Times/Caucus blog)
-
For the third time in less than three weeks, Fox News Channel has had to acknowledge using poor judgment through inappropriate references to Senator Barack Obama. The network has released a statement saying it should not have referred to Mr. Obama's wife, Michelle, as "Obama's Baby Mama," as it did on Wednesday in an on-screen headline commonly called a "chyron."Get ready for lots of these kinds of faux-mistakes and even more faux-apologies from the Republican side all summer. Fox is the GOP network, right? These talking-head fools are just saying what their party and its constituents are thinking. It's predictable and it will only pick up steam as we get closer to November. I'd like to set a countdown timer on when we get our first big black d*ck comment re: Obama. Anyone? Anyone? But his hands, they're sooo huge! Well, he does play basketball. The more interesting question to me will be: will the Democratic side start making tasteless tongue-in-cheek comments about old white men, after all McCain is, well, aged like a fine white, um, vinegar.

Apple's version of BlackBerry's server, and Microsoft's Live Mesh...god lawd, get ready for the browser wars all over again, except this time it's mobile platforms, and let's not forget Google's Android, while we're at it...which I guess means, we'll get renewed browser wars on mobile devices too, since everyone will surely want the Web and Internet on their phones, right? This is why non-techies hate technology: it just can't stay still. Can't we all just g'it along?

Damon puzzled by taking Joba out of bullpen
(ESPNHeadlines)
-
It didn't take long for the second-guessing to begin over Joba Chamberlain's move to the New York Yankees starting rotation. But sometimes second-guessing is necessary. This is one of those times. Why take a situation where you could pretty much guarantee a difficult 8th and 9th inning on your opponents, and mess with it in the middle of the season? When the Yankees were winning championships, that was the formula. Now, since those big bats have gone to sleep much too often to justify the $200-million+ payroll, and scoring is getting hard to come by, it's almost a necessity to have a Chamberlain-Rivera endgame. Maybe Joba is a starter, but figure that out in Spring Training. Why mess with that now?

Rock 'n roll legend Bo Diddley dies at 79
(Reuters)
-
Rock 'n' roll pioneer Bo Diddley, who banged out hit songs powered by the relentless "Bo Diddley beat" that influenced rockers from Buddy Holly to U2, died on Monday at the age of 79.Some musicians are so influential that if you left them out of any discussion, entire musical categories might collapse. Without Mr. Diddley, it's hard to imagine the guitar becoming a staple in rock-and-roll music. Of course, the way they play rock guitar today is not the way he played, but he was a seminal influence, for sure. Plus, he had some of the most interesting axes.

Buying In: The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are
(Amazon.com)
-
Who to believe? Seth Godin, the guy who wrote All Marketers Are Liars (read my old review on that book) thinks this new book on murketing (marketing made murky) is great, it's a book that changes him and shows him a different way to think. Meanwhile, Matthew Creamer, some guy who's a basically a flack for an old-school media organization if there ever was one, Advertising Age, says that no one is buying the book and that it doesn't really go beyond case studies. And me, I'm employed by a hierarchical, decidedly old-school marketing organization. So, whose opinion should I trust? Or should I wait for the book to be made into a movie or Reality TV™ show?
