This is interesting: object-recognition photo search. It can "recognize" faces, objects, and other items once it's been trained. In early testing right now, but I'm sure this technology will show up in many things shortly.

Two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders were arrested after a bar dispute that broke out early Sunday after patrons complained the women were having sex in a bathroom stall, a police arrest report said.Now here's the thing: the NFL forced ESPN to cancel the nighttime soap opera Playmakers because the show dealt with issues such as drug use, marital infidelity, racism and homophobia. NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue had expressed concerns that Playmakers was one-dimensional and perpetuated racial stereotypes. Many in the NFL thought the show was over-the-top, even though by the end of the broadcast season some NFL players were asking about guest spots on the program. Now juxtapose that fantasy with things that have happened in the NFL in the last few years: the Rae Carruth murder plot, Jamal Lewis and Ray Lewis spending time in jail for alleged drug trafficking and accessory to murder respectively, Bill Romanowski writing a book about rampant steroid use, the Vikings sex-boat orgy, a Seahawk with a fractured skull after a nightclub fight, various DUIs, Whizzonators, T.O. getting into fights with teammates in the training room, ad nauseum... and now, cheerleaders having sex in the bathroom of a family restaurant, and then punching out patrons who just wanted to use a rest room the normal way. Hell, Playmakers might be the closest thing to Reality TV™ that's ever been broadcast. Is the DVD available?

A Vulture Capitalist: "I joked recently that I am giving my family 'continuous partial attention.' They don't like that and demand more. And I give them more. Blogs and web services can't demand more attention very easily. So they get less."Here's the quote on which that blogger's comments are based; it got my attention: 'What information consumes is rather obvious: it consumes the attention of its recipients. Hence a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention, and a need to allocate that attention efficiently among the overabundance of information sources that might consume it.' We are living in attention-poor times. The effect of technology on all aspects of life is increasing the velocity of all experience and burying us in an avalanche of minutiae. But I don't think it's a completely bad thing. Filter out the useless stuff. Separate the wheat from the chaff. Adapt.
