Two held after ad campaign triggers Boston bomb scare
(CNN.com)
-
"It had a very sinister appearance," [Massachusetts Attorney General Martha] Coakley told reporters. "It had a battery behind it, and wires." The hoax charge is a felony, she said...Cartoon Network [ran] a statement during commercial breaks, expressing deep regret for "the hardships experienced as a result of this incident"... but [Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said,] "I just think this is outrageous, what they've done ... It's all about corporate greed."It's not about greed, mayor, please take it easy with the hyperbole. As a member of the advertising community, I see this is nothing more than a foolish and ill-conceived marketing stunt. The video artists who implemented it shouldn't be ripped (or arrested), it's the people who greenlighted this at Cartoon Network who should be pilloried. It's not about greed, it's about marketers trying to innovate on their message delivery and failing miserably.
