Magic Johnson to Launch Media Company
(Advertising Age)
-
Urban entrepreneur Earvin "Magic" Johnson will turn media entrepreneur in early 2007 with the launch of Magic New Media. What caught my eye about this announcement is not the announcement itself. I'm sure Magic will do incredibly well with his new venture, just as he's done with the Burger Kings , Starbuckses, and the Sony cineplexes he's endorsed in various hoods all across the nation, where ticket prices are higher than at comparable suburban malls. No, Magic is going to do fine, attaching his solid gold name to another venture designed to vacuum dollar bills out of people's pockets. But what I note here is how AdAge describes him as an urban entrepreneur. In fact, references to Urban America are peppered all throughout the story. I think that's what they call code words. But, man, what's the code?
