Weeklong national bioterror drill begins in Seattle (SignOnSanDiego.com)
A national bioterrorism drill for hundreds of firefighters, police and other emergency workers began Monday with a mock explosion of a radioactive "dirty bomb" in a car in a Seattle industrial lot ... Seattle's mayor said he is not worried that the security exercise may cause panic.

(Neo, this is just a "dress rehearsal," it is not the real Matrix. A nation of TV-watchers, many of whom can't separate fantasy from reality, being "prepared" for large-scale chaos. Very scary. ) « 11:46:08 PM »

Girlfriends (UPN)

(Everyone talks about "Sex in the City." But let's face it, they're nothing more than a quartet of heading-toward-spinsterhood slatterns. "Girlfriends" is better-written, more real, much funnier, and these four look much better. This show is an undiscovered gem. ) « 9:32:18 PM »

Times Reporter Who Resigned Leaves Long Trail of Deception (New York Times)
His mistakes became so routine, his behavior so unprofessional, that by April 2002, Jonathan Landman, the metropolitan editor, dashed off a two-sentence e-mail message to newsroom administrators that read: "We have to stop Jayson from writing for the Times. Right now."

(Man, this guy really f*cked up. In the process, he's pretty much screwed any ambitious young black reporter who attempts to get a job at the Old Grey Lady in the future. I know this buffoon, Pollack is trying to be funny -- ha, ha -- about this, but maybe he's got a point: NY Times should cease publishing, right now.

For reference, however, we need to watch how the aftermath of this situation plays out, and see if this guy, Blair, gets the same treatment as famous plagiarists like Mike Barnacle and Ruth Shalit. Blair's sins were of an individual nature, but it will be interesting to see if his mistakes really do tar-and-feather, as it were, a whole group. I expect the double-standard, but we'll see soon enough.
