Racism alive and well in the Union. kottke.org - kottke: "In the past two days, in dealings with a cab driver and the cable guy, both non-Caucasian (and non-black), I've heard a diatribe beginning with "those n*ggers, man..." and accusations of a wrong cable in the kit because "those blacks" aren't doing their jobs..."

(Two observations:

1) Where do you think these non-Caucasians picked up their vocabulary? Don't most people in Rome do as the Romans do?

2) If you let people say racist things in your presence, and you don't check them for it, isn't that essentially the same as condoning their behavior? If you don't fight it, especially in the small ways, then it will never stop.

But boy, it's sure convenient and easy to pass the onus of racism off onto non-Caucasians and skate by without taking any responsibility for fighting bias, unless you aren't really troubled about it. ) « 10:26:11 PM »
