WorldCom files largest bankruptcy in history - InfoWorld. FCC chairman 'deeply concerned' about bankruptcy.(Oh brother, now I've heard it all. FCC chairman Michael Powell -- Colin Powell's son -- deeply concerned? About what? This WorldCom mess is right out of his own playbook, which basically says: let corporations do whatever they want, it's all good for consumers. He's the one who once said, "Monopoly is not illegal by itself in the United States. People tend to forget this. There is something healthy about letting innovators try to capture markets. What's not healthy is if they can control them in a way that leads to anticompetitive effects for consumers."

Get A Job - Metafilter. "To be a good writer (and by extension artist of any kind) you have to be out in the world of work and humdrum living. It's a big mistake, he says, to train writers as "writers" in little hothouse workshops."(Great MeFi thread -- much better than the sourced link -- on whether having a job and being out in the daily grind actually helps writers.)
