Jobless Blacks Face Steepest Challenge
(LA Times)

As the economy continued to falter this fall, blacks have felt the effects more keenly than other Americans. The rate of black unemployment--at 9.7% nationally in October, up from 8.7% in September--has for decades persisted at about twice the rate of whites.

Even in the best of times, African Americans suffer the nation's highest unemployment rates.

In bad times, they tend to fare worse still, losing jobs at disproportionate rates and remaining out of work longer than other Americans.

Again, with feeling: "Even in the best of times, African Americans suffer the nation's highest unemployment rates." Whoah, that's a load off of BoyCaught's mind. All this time, he thought that persistent Black under-employment was just because we're shiftless and lazy and kinda d-d-dim, and because only a tiny fraction of us have the musical or athletic skeelz necessary for full economic exploitation, er, participation.

Transformers Personality Test

Through the magic of advanced computer science, our supercomputer will tell you which Autobot you have the most in common with.
Well, alright. But only for the cartoon-lovers. BoyCaught, your blogger-du-jour, would be: Prowl - logical, analytical and rational; the geeky autobot, prefers Linux to Windows. (b/w fasthack)

Russia Checkmated Its New Best Friend
(LA Times)

By charging like an enraged bull into the South Asian china shop, the U.S. handed a stunning geopolitical victory to the Russians and severely damaged its own great power ambitions. Moscow is now free to continue plans to dominate South and Central Asia in concert with its strategic allies, India and Iran.

The Bush administration does not appear to understand its enormous blunder and keeps insisting that "the Russians are now our friends."

Back in the ... Back in the ... Back in the USSR! We've said a lot of things about Dubya, but we've never said he was smart. Apparently, his cabinet and advisors aren't much help either. We probably should expect more blunders along the way, eh? (b/w randomWalks)
