... the forecast here in Northern Cali today.

Did Ashcroft Lie Under Oath?
(About.com: US Politics)

John D. Ashcroft vigorously defended his fight against a landmark voluntary desegregation plan in St. Louis. That sums up BoyCaught's take on Ashcroft: he went on record against a voluntary desegregation plan. If the people volunteer to make changes intended to improve race relations in their community, what idiot politician would be against that ... but a flat-out racist? If Ashcroft is confirmed, maybe we can expect to see Tulia, Texas happen over and over and over again. (b/w Unknown News)

No room in the booth for women broadcasters
(DenverPost.com)

Like every woman before her on the "MNF" show - including Lesley Visser, whom Stark replaced in June - she'll be on the sidelines, not up at broadcast central, where the men sit. An old article, by web standards, but with the Super Bowl coming up (and BoyCaught from Joisey -- Go Jints!) it makes one wonder: do you have to grow up playing the game? Is a background in the sport they cover, at an organized level, a prerequisite for sports journalists? If that's the case, women may never break into the booth, at least not in so-called men's sports, like football, baseball, or boxing. Yet male broadcasters get opportunities to cover all sports.

Where have all the W's gone?
(MSNBC)

In an apparent prank carried out by departing Clinton administration staffers, Bush aides discovered that dozens of computer keyboards were missing the 'W' key. But the President-elect was nonplussed. He said: "But it doesn't matter. We can still type my name on the letterhead. There's no W's in 'Dubya' anyway!" (b/w MrBarrett)

BlogVoices.com will be closing indefinitely

At 10:53PM on Monday, January 22: I received an email from the billing department of Hostrocket.com informing me that the BlogVoices.com account was in violation of the Hostrocket Terms of Service. Regardless of whether or not I agree with the reasoning, the decision has been made. BlogVoices.com will be closing indefinitely. [cIb] isn't a Blogger-powered blog, so BlogVoices was never an option, but it's sad that a pretty useful service, albeit a personal skunks-works, is about to die because of some ISP-reseller's "terms." What this country needs is a T1 for every citizen; then fools could host their own servers.

Michael Powell Chosen By Bush to Head FCC
(washingtonpost.com)

Now Michael Powell is following his father (Colin Powell) in a different fashion: Together, the two men are the first father-son executive appointees to serve in the same administration since 1959. And Dubya said: let there be nepotism. Natch.

New Brand of Oversight
(washingtonpost.com)

An official with the Bush transition team who worked with him in Texas summed up Bush's views on regulation: "Set high standards" ... and then fail to meet them?
