Even if I have personally reached the point at which I am not longer aware of the lexicons of large urban subcultures, there's a million things insulting about this ad.
Nearly a year ago to this day, BoyCaught read an article in Smug (online) Magazine, charging the original Bud "Whazzup" ad as racist. At that time, BoyCaught questioned the (idiot) writer's qualifications for making that judgement, given the fact that she admitted she was "a middle class white woman" who was no "longer aware of the lexicons of large urban subcultures."
BoyCaught, who easily falls into the very same demo-ethnographic population cohort portrayed by the actors in the spot, argued that he knew people exactly like those characters, and in fact, at times, may be one of those characters. To call the ad racist suggested that there is no such thing as a Black man who can just kick it at home, drink a beer, and watch a game on his big screen TV. Sh*t, if he wasn't doing that, what would he be doing, playing basketball? Breaking into your house?
So, here's the thing: is the new "What Are You Doing?" Budweiser spot, with the preppy white guys, an example of reverse-racism? Or are there really white guys who wear cardigan sweaters at home, drink imported beer, and watch CNBC and the Money Honey?
