Stanford Upsets

Stanford, who was last team to beat USC at home in 2001, did it again with a shocking 24-23 victory on Saturday to end a number of notable streaks for the Trojans:
- -- 5-game win streak vs. Stanford snapped
- -- 35-game home win streak snapped
- -- 24-game Pac-10 home win streak snapped
Unbelievable! Here I was thinking the Cardinal might get 80 points dropped on them, and they go and shock the college football world. This win, while highly improbable, is far from a fluke. Here are some facts: they sacked USC four times, when all season the Trojans had given up just three sacks; they had a goal line stand at the end of the first half that set the tone for the remainder of the game; they forced five USC turnovers, one leading directly to points; they held USC's rushing attack to 95 yards; and they had a sophomore QB, in his first start ever, hit two huge fourth down completions in the final drive, the last one for the winning touchdown. It just makes you wonder, if the Cardinal had these kind of stones, why are they only 2-3, with three blowout losses to opponents not as good as SC? College kids, you can't figure them out. In the world of sports, they talk about signature wins, games that help define the identity of a program, this may be it for Coach Jim Harbaugh's Cardinal. Way to go Stanford. I am happy to be wrong. What a great win for the program.
