Army Giving More Waivers in Recruiting

The number of waivers granted to Army recruits with criminal backgrounds has grown about 65 percent in the last three years, increasing to 8,129 in 2006 from 4,918 in 2003, Department of Defense records show.And I love this part: "...many criminals have at some point exhibited serious lapses in discipline and judgment, traits that are far from ideal on the battlefield." Maybe the reason they're considered criminals is because they've "exhibited serious lapses in displine and judgement" in the first place. Like not following rules, breaking laws, violating other people, that sort of thing. You think? On the other hand, a place like Iraq is far from an ideal battlefield, which is part of the problem why we need so many more recruits to begin with...
