Schools must block MySpace, many other sites
(Techcrunch)
-
[This law] will require schools and libraries to block access to a potentially huge range of sites on the internet. The goal is to protect children from adult predators. Sites that must be blocked include those that allow people to post profiles, include personal information and allow communication among users. So basically, any site that allows you to "interact" falls under this law, which includes, basically, every Web site on the Net. Now, if you used the word "fascist" to describe the potential upshot here, some narrowminded people would consider that being overly dramatic! OK, so I'm being overly dramatic, but fascist isn't the correct word, because that implies a mashup of government and industry dominance...hey, wait a minute, hmmm... Actually, the correct word here is "totalitarian." When governments try to legislate areas of life where parents are solely responsible, that's an attempt to impose total control over the lives of citizens. And I don't think those are American values. Thanks G.O.P.
