Attack of the Blogs
(Forbes.com)
-
Web logs are the prized platform of an online lynch mob spouting liberty but spewing lies, libel and invective. Their potent allies in this pursuit include Google and Yahoo.Oh man, this article is really going to scare a lot of people, especially the suits, about blogging. Personally, I think it's a little over-the-top, taking a handful of cases and blowing things far, far out of proportion. Are blogs a threat, in a whistle-blower sense, to smug corporate and government entities who try to cover up malignant deeds and activities? Absolutely, and that's how it should be. Discounting the real echo-chamber nature of the blogosphere, to imply that all blogs are bad simply because a tiny fraction of people, some of them dishonest, use their sites malaciously (i.e. prized platform of an online lynch mob spouting liberty but spewing lies) seems more like Chicken Little screaming that the sky is falling! And of course, now that battle lines are being drawn, there's going to be a legal price to pay. I guess that very soon the only safe blogging will be to write about your dog, or the lint you found in your pocket. Interesting advice Forbes provides on how corporations can fight back against these killer blogs. So, we've come to this: the Internet is now a battlefield. (Registration required, or just bugmenot)
