Racist E-mail attacks stun NYU biz students
(NY Daily News)
-
Hate-filled E-mails targeting African-Americans, Arabs and Muslims flooded the inboxes of undergraduate students during a recent hacking spree at NYU's Stern School of Business.More than 100 messages were sent to the school's 1,600 students. Many used the N-word liberally and included lengthy arguments in support of stereotypes. "It was inexcusable stuff," said Andrea Clarke, 20, a senior in Stern's undergraduate program. "A lot of students were very offended and concerned."Sorry to sound jaded but: Oh, cry me a river! Why are people so shocked when this kind of stuff happens? Why do people kid themselves into thinking that this is a 'kinder, gentler' nation? Maybe that's the fantasy. But we know the reality. I'm not saying that these kinds of actions are acceptable, but to be 'shocked and awed' by them play right into the hands of the perpetrators. I say: find the spineless cowards and ream them with every possible legal and financial weapon possible. And then do it again.
